Only Son of legendary sire DYNAFORMER to stand in California

By Dynaformer, the sire of the great Barbaro, Mr. Big is not only royally bred but also aptly named as he stands 17.2 hands tall. Dubbed the best physical son of dynasty-shaping Dynaformer and out of Fashion Delight, a stakes-winning and graded-stakes-producing Fappiano mare, it is no surprise that he commanded a sale price of $220,000 – as a weanling.

Mr. Big was a Bob Baffert trainee for most of his racing career where he flashed his unbridled talent while winning twice and recording an Equibase™ speed figure of 106. As he embarked on his stallion career, success came quickly: From 16 foals of racing age, he has already eight winners from eight starters to his credit, including most recently an impressive win by his 3-year-old son Big Score in the Grade-3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland Racecourse.

Big Score now leads all his offspring with $237,800 in earnings, followed closely by Mr. Big’s first test foal, Big Break, who accumulated $236,259 in 41 starts and counting. The then 3-year-old filly won by a sensational 7 ¾ lengths at first asking at Santa Anita (5 ½ furlong on the dirt), and came back in the Santa Paula Stakes (6 ½ furlong on the dirt) to outrun Grade-1-placed Taste Like Candy and Grade-3-placed Morning Fix.

The late star-filly Big Book was Mr. Big’s first stakes winner (in the $200,000 Fleet Treat Stakes over 7 furlongs at Del Mar) and also the first offspring to earn graded black type for her sire, finishing second in the Grade-3 Torrey Pines Stakes (1 mile) at Del Mar.  All of Mr. Big’s California-bred winners, including Big Book (earnings of over $198,000) and Big Move ($148,868) were born, raised and started at E.A. Ranches, and also completed their early conditioning here.

While Dynaformer’s genetics have long stamped him a “Sire of Sires,” his magnificent-looking son Mr. Big now set out to continue the dynasty in California. All of his eight starters to date are winners, and he can already boast about tremendously improving his mares. This quality trait is evidenced by an extraordinary Average Earnings Index (AEI) of 3.40 for the current year, achieved from mares whose Comparative Index (CI) is 0.75.

While Mr. Big’s lifetime progeny earnings add up to “only” $952,807 to date, his average earnings per starter are a sensational $119,101, with median earnings a mind-boggling $127,095. These impressive stats are better than any other leading sire in California, and better than all but one of the active top-20 Kentucky sires.
